Limitless

Guest post by Beth Jones

Often when I wash dishes, my eyes wander outside the window. I normally watch the beautiful red cardinals flit about, and the squirrels store up nuts for the winter but this weekend I spotted our neighbor’s Labrador on a leash, attached to a rolling trolley between two trees.

He could run back and forth the length of the line. But he’s not free. He runs only so far.

Restrained. Hindered. Chained.

He barks. He sits, bored and dejected. I want to unleash him. I want him to run.I want him to run the way I want to run into my purpose, unhindered. Unstoppable.

Fulfilling my God-ordained calling.

What chains limit me? What holds me back? What keeps me running only so far?

Why do I shrink at times from my destiny?

Jesus came to set me free. At the cross over 2,000 years ago, He died to give me liberty and life more abundant. He broke the chains with which sin and death held me captive.

“Thank God! Once you were slaves of sin, but now you have obeyed with all your heart the new teaching God has given you. Now you are free from sin (Romans 6:17-19).”

But like Lazarus shrouded in the grave clothes, I must choose to come forth when Christ calls me. I can stay wrapped in the stinking bandages of death – stuck in the pain of the past, remaining in bondage to sin, holding back in fear and uncertainties – or I can respond to my Master’s voice, throw off my chains and grave clothes, and dance with Divine Destiny.

Dancing with liberty. Joy. The anointing that breaks the yoke of chains which slow me down, trip my feet, or even stop me from doing what God has called me to do.

God desires for me to be released into my great purpose, much like I long to see the neighbor’s dog unchained and running free.

I look out the window again and watch, sensing God near. The dog gets up, sniffs the ground, and runs–only so far.

Yes, Lord, I hear you. With you, I have no limits. But I have a choice to make: will I  run in that power and authority?
